Benefit Recital A Huge Success

First - thank you to everyone who came to support Jen and Joy at their Christmas Recital. We believe that everyone who came enjoyed themselves.

Second: we thank everyone who gave to support our missions trip to Guatemala. We have not received the grand total for the recital but at last count it was in the ballpark of $750!

Third: we also thank the Dover Baptist Missions Committee for the post recital reception. This was an excellent way to wrap up the event.

Plane Tickets Purchased!

Well, we made the next (huge) step in our trip planning. It is also a huge leap of faith (as we have not yet received enough support): we booked our flights to and from Guatemala!

We depart Logan airport on Saturday, February 9th at 10:25am EST and arrive in Guatemala City at 2:20pm CST. We had to change our return flight in order to stay within our original travel budget. Instead of returning on Saturday, March 1st we will leave Guatemala on Thursday, February 28th at 3:25pm CST and arrive in Boston Friday, February 29th at 12:41am.

Our only other options in our price range included the handy feature of a 7+ hour layover in the middle of the night in New York City. Tempting... but no.

Prayer Letters Mailed!

By now some of you have received our prayer/ support letters. More will follow once additional copies are done.

On August 25th we had a yard sale which covered the costs of the support letters.

Another yard sale is planned and details of where/ when will be announced soon.

Ken has started his Spanish studies at home -- please be in prayer for him!
Abigail has also started Spanish as part of her homeschooling. So far she knows various important words like bathroom, and could maybe ask someone's name.

Joy continues work on the L.A.C.E.S prayer cards. These prayer cards are intended to establish dedicated prayer partners between L.A.C.E.S students and State-side prayer warriors. If you are interested in receiving a student prayer card please
e-mail us.

Welcome!

Announcing the grand opening of "Eisners in Gutatemala".

As details of our upcoming trip develop we will publish new posts here to keep everyone up to date.

Please check back regularly for more information.

Support Letter

August 9, 2007

Dear Friends and Family,

Isn’t it wonderful that God still speaks to His people! As a family, we have been strongly feeling God pulling our lives in a new direction, possibly into full time ministry. As many of you know, our family has been closely connected to the country of Guatemala through friends for the past few years. Joy began ministering there on a short-term basis in 2000, and Ken visited for the first time in 2003. Now, we are feeling that God has more in store for us in that country, and we are eager to discover just what that may be.

Our dear friends, Andrew and Rebecca Loveall, work for a missions agency named L.A.C.E.S (Latin American Christian Education Services) which operates two schools for extremely poor children in Guatemala. Due to a lack of public (free) education in the country, 67% of Guatemalan children ages 7 – 14 never have an opportunity to attend school – thus perpetuating their poverty. Our lives have been deeply touched and affected through our work with this ministry, and we know that God is calling us to further work with them.

This coming February, our family will return to Guatemala on a “discovery mission.” Some of you may be thinking, “What is a discovery mission?” Andrew and Rebecca have suggested some positions which they feel would be best suited for us within the LACES ministry. These three weeks will be a time for all of us to discover if our giftings match with those positions.

Kenneth will be spending most of his time with Andrew, getting to know the young men he mentors and the techniques he uses to get involved in their lives. Approximately 80% of the children involved with LACES do not have a father active in their lives, so mentoring is a crucial part of this ministry. He will also be spending some time further developing the LACES website. (For more information about LACES please visit www.laces-guatemala.com.) Joy will be spending her days shadowing Rebecca and learning the duties involved in the job of project manager. She will also spend some time working in the music classroom, and from there will determine if the current music curriculum really suits the needs of the school. If necessary, she will then begin work on writing a new curriculum that will fit the school’s needs better.

How can you help? Prayer. We ask that you pray that God will reveal his plan to us, pray that we will have open hearts and open minds, and that we will truly listen for God and to God. Also, please pray that our family will stay safe and healthy and adjust well to the Guatemalan culture and climate. Finally, pray for our preparations, and that God will provide all the funds we need to be able to make this trip.

In His Service,

Ken, Joy, Abigail and Emma Eisner
